Perhaps I am a bear, or some hibernating animal underneath, for the instinct to be half asleep all winter is so strong in me.

the animal merely makes a bed, which warms with his body, in sheltered place; but man, having discovered fire, boxes up some air in a spacious apartment, and warms that, instead of robbing himself, makes that his bed, in which he can move about divested of more cumbrous clothing, maintain a kind of summer in the midst of winter, and by means of windows even admit the light, and with a lamp lengthen out the day. Thus he goes a step or two beyond instinct, and saves a little time for the fine arts.

~first snow of the season...gives me inspiration to move into my fine art and find peace in that simple pleasure...xo

That Thoreau quote is lovely. And your instinct for sleep at this time of year is shared.

I love this quote. Though in my house the cumbrous clothing is still needed, as the drafts steal the warmed air like a thief...
