Mushrooms...the new meat

Just some interesting information out of the Spirituality-Health magazine, pg.31 Jan/Feb issue.
Substituting a four- ounce grilled Portabella mushroom for a four-ounce grilled hamburger over the course of a year saves more than 18,000 calories and nearly 3,000 grams of fat, the equivalent of 30 sticks of butter. Waistlines will benefit-and the environment will, too.

oh, my! we are vegetarians at our house (but we eat meat when we are visiting or at a restaurant) I love cooking with mushrooms they add that extra tender yummy ingredient to the mix.

Great information!

PS found you through chronicles of a country girl and you have an excellent blog here!

I love mushrooms. Unfortunately I love them on burgers, too.

The magazine sounds interesting and I've never heard of it before. Thanks!

Strange question, do you have a link somewhere in this post to the spirituality - health magazine? I came back to this post tonight & my computer jumped to their website, did I click on a link from your site?
